Santos Camping Trip

I was so excited to be finally going on a camping trip, especially to Santos. We haven't been there in forever! Everything was going great. We picked up Subway sandwiches on the way and decided to eat them at the campground. After eating, we put up our brand new tent. By the way the thing is awesome, it has 2 separate rooms inside. Anyway, now it's about 2:30 and guess what...it starts to rain. No big deal, we think it's going to be one of those quick rains. WE WERE WRONG!!!

Waiting for the rain to stop.

Waiting......
Waiting................
Yes, still waiting................

OK, it's about 7:30 now, still sprinkling. But, who cares we are hitting the pump track!
Time for a shower.

The next morning, the sun was shining and we were ready to ride. We decided to do something different this time. Our plans were to ride to the Land Bridge from the campground. We knew it was going to a long ride and were all up to it.

We made it all the way to this point, about 9 miles . With only 2 miles left, we decided to turn around and head back to the campground. We were so close, but we didn't want to push my sister. She was awesome!! 18 mile ride at one time would break her record. She didn't even complain, but we knew she was getting really tired. It's OK, it gives us a challenge to do next time...Or maybe we will park at the Land Bridge trailhead and ride the trails over there.

Oh, I forgot to tell you I got hit in the head by a monster branch. What are the odds of that happening. I was just riding along and BONK!! I thought I forgot to duck under a low tree or something. Thank God, I was wearing my helmet, it was filled with sawdust and bark.

After our ride, I still had lots of energy. I was not ready to stop riding. So, my Dad and I went to ride the trails over at the Vortex. This was my first time riding them. I found them to be very challenging. The climbs were rocky and steep. I loved them!! (My Mom would have been freaking out if she saw me ride them.) I also had fun watching the freeriders, they were awesome. So...even with all of the rain, it still ended up being a fun trip!!

I had a pretty good week at school. I was happy to receive a medal and the "Fitness Fanatic" Award in PE. I exceeded all fitness expectations and was the fastest in my class for the half mile run. (I didn't even run, I just jogged.) Most of the kids in my class didn't take it seriously, I looked at it as a race.

Saturday afternoon, we headed to Alafia. (Like we were supposed to do last weekend) We skipped North Creek this time because my sister was on my old bike. It's a little big for her and she is still getting used to it. So, we did the easy loop... River loop, Rock Garden, and Sandy Pine. On our next camping trip here, I'm going to try and ride some of the more difficult trails.

Can't wait to camp at Santos next weekend!! It's been a long time since I have been there. I hope I have some exciting stories to share with everyone.

Super Sandy

We thought Lakeland would be a great place to try out my new bike. When we got there....we saw lots of other kids. That was cool, you don't see many kids out on the trails. Anyway, after getting geared up, we hit the trails. It was going good until we got to Sprinkler Hill. And from then on, it was nothing but, SAND, SAND, and more SAND. On one of the previous comments, someone wanted to know about Duro Tires. This is what I know about them so far.... They are not as beefy as my old Kenda tires, so they don't do well in sand. However, they work awesome on the flats. That's all I know for now, we decided to leave Lakeland after only 4 miles.

Still can't make it up. Next time, I will try going over the root instead of around it! At least my Dad will be there to catch me if I fall.

Here's a little Math problem for you. After leaving Lakeland, we were on our way to Alafia. My Dad noticed that we needed gas, pulled into the gas station and realized no debit card. Oh No, only $10.00 in cash and some quarters. What should we do?? Alafia costs $4.00 which doesn't leave that much for gas. We can't go home, we have only ridden 4 miles today. Problem solved: not enough money+no gas= Morris Bridge. ($8.00 cash+ $2.00 quarters for gas, $2.00 for Morris Bridge. I wasn't excited about going to Morris Bridge, but we ended up having a great ride!

Here It Is........

First, I wanted to thank everyone for the comments. I love reading them!! I haven't had a whole lot to talk about lately, but that's about to change! My bike is completed, except for maybe a new wheel set, I'm using my Mom's old specialized one for now. I love my new fork...it's awesome and super racey looking. I finally have a fork that actually works! Can't wait to hit the trails this weekend...maybe lakeland or Alafia.
